Doug grew up in Tampa, Fla were he was a three-year, All-Conference second baseman at King High School. From Tampa, Doug had the opportunity to attend Faulkner State CC in Bay Minette, AL. In the two seasons at FSCC he played multiple positions and earned Conference player of the year and Junior College All-American honors. Clemson University was the next playing opportunity. Doug was a starting second baseman for an ACC championship team and back-to-back College World Series teams. In the summer of 1995, Doug played for the league champion Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape cod league. His summer job during this season was to coach young players during summer camps. That summer job eventually led to his passion to teach the game of baseball. In 1996, the Colorado Rockies made Doug a 16th round draft pick. Throughout 4 seasons in the Rockies organization, he was able to play multiple positions for teams from Short Season A baseball through Double A. Doug spent his last two seasons of professional baseball with the Fargo-Morehead Redhawks of the Independent Northern League. Through the Northern league, he had an amazing opportunity to play for Team USA in a World Cup tournament in Panama, Central America.
In the summer of 2000, Doug moved to Alpharetta and began giving private lessons and running camps. From that summer on, he has had the chance to help coach multiple travel teams such as the Georgia Roadrunners, Chattahoochee Cougars feeder, Wills Park Knights, and Team Georgia Baseball Academy. Doug has worked at Grand Slam Sports Center since 2003. Through Grand Slam Sports Center, he is given the opportunity to work with individual students on fielding footwork and mechanics, hitting approach, and occasional pitching techniques. Doug also enjoys the ability through GS to help with coaches’ clinics and team practices. The game of baseball has given Doug a lifetime of wonderful experiences and Grand Slam Spoorts Center gives him the opportunity to pass that passion along to young players with big dreams.
For the 2015-2016 season Doug will be coaching with Aaron Alvarez and Nic Ungs with the 13U Georgia Bombers as well as helping develop infielders throughout the Bombers organization.
